PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize downsizing and cost reduction in a semiconductor device. SOLUTION: The semiconductor device 100 includes a data memory element 40 having a variable resistor 42 and an electrode 44, and a control unit 30 which selects one of a first mode in which data is memorized as a value of resistance of the variable resistor 42, or a second mode in which data is memorized as a quantity of electric charge of the electrode 44. A single memory element with a plurality of memory modes can be realized by properly using the data memory element 40 in the first and second mode, and accordingly a downsized and low cost semiconductor device can be also realized.
