摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurately controlling the length of an output image in the direction of conveyance by accurately estimating the sandwiching and conveying capability of a secondary transfer section T2 without providing a dedicated frictional-force measuring device. SOLUTION: Since an intermediate transfer belt 31 has an elastic layer, it has a coefficient of friction that is greater than a secondary transfer roller 36 in which a releasing layer is formed. An optical sensor 60 detects specular reflection by emitting infrared light to a control image formed on a photoreceptor drum 11a and primarily transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 31. A control section 80 obtains the glossiness of the intermediate transfer belt 31 by detecting the output of the optical sensor 60 from the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 31, of which surface has no toner image thereon. According to the glossiness, at least one of the scanning speed of an exposure device 13a and the rotating speed of the secondary transfer roller 36 is controlled to reproduce the constant length of an image formed on a recording material P in the direction of conveyance.
