PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase-contrast microscope, for detecting a mineral fiber with an extremely small phase difference quantity such as asbestos, which is contained in a sample collected from powder dust in the atmosphere or a building material. SOLUTION: The asbestos phase-contrast microscope 1 comprises a light source 21, a lighting optical system 20 emitting light from the light source 21 to a sample S and an objective lens 30 converging the light transmitted by the sample S to form an image in this order. A ring diaphragm 24 is disposed in the vicinity of a position conjugate with an image-side focusing surface of the objective lens 30 within the lighting optical system 20, and a phase ring 31 having a shape covering an opening part 24a of the ring diaphragm 24 is disposed in a position conjugate with the ring diaphragm 24 on the image side of the objective lens 30.
