A pneumatic tyre has a carcase ply 1 the parallel cords 2 of which are passed continuously from bead to bead, which cords subtend an angle of between 5 and 30 degrees to the midcircumferential plane in the tread region and an angle of between 10 and 15 degrees to the radial planes passing through the axis of the tyre in the side wall regions and three tread plies 9, 10, 11, the cords 12 of plies 9 and 11 crossing the underlying carcase cords 2 and the cords 12 of the ply 10 being parallel to the underlying carcase cords 2, the cords of the ply 9 forming an angleα, of between 80 and 90 degrees at the edges of this ply with the adjacent carcase cords 2. In the transition region between the side walls and tread region of the tyre the cords 2 extend in curved paths, the cords 12 of the tread plies also being curved at the edges of the tread plies. Additional side wall plies 13 having parallel cords 14 extend between the tread plies 10 and 11 such that an angle # of between 80 and 90 degrees is formed between the radially outermost ends of the cords 14 and the straight parts of the cords 12 of the ply 10. |
