The invention relates to an age verification terminal configured for verifying the age of a person and providing a purchase ticket for purchasing an age-restricted item is proposed. The terminal comprises a video camera configured for capturing an image of the person and a document reader configured for capturing an image of an identification document of the person. The terminal also comprises connecting means and receiving means. The connecting means are configured for connecting to a remote age verification centre to transmit the image of said person and the image of (at least a part of) the identification document to the age verification centre. The receiver is configured for receiving a purchase approval signal from the age verification centre in response to having transmitted the person image and/or the document image. The age verification module comprises a controller configured for controlling a ticket printer to print the purchase ticket in response to receiving the purchase approval signal. The purchase ticket then comprises an image of the person and/or a ticket code intended for allowing purchase of the age-restricted item.
