<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety catheter having a needle tip protector for automatically covering the tip of the needle to prevent the needle from pricking a doctor when the needle is pulled. <P>SOLUTION: A catheter and introducer needle assembly has a needle attached to a needle hub and an enlarged diameter area disposed thereon, and a tubular catheter. The introducer needle is coaxially received within the catheter. The device has a hollow catheter hub attached to the catheter and in a fluid communication therewith. The catheter hub has an interior having a raised annular rib disposed thereon.
