PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time required for data processing in an image data processor and an image data processing method for processing data by reading image data from a storage medium storing image files. SOLUTION: When a memory card is inserted into a card slot, one image file is selected for previewing display. In preview preparation processing, image data are read along an array order in the memory card for decoding (steps S202-S208). Also, each time when decode processing of one image block row is completed, the offset of image data is stored (steps S209, S210, S201). When previewing is completed, the image data are read based on the offset value regardless of the presence or absence of user's print instructions and are written in a line buffer.
