PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pulse modulation type light detection device capable of detecting the presence of an object by a circuit which has been reduced by eliminating the output terminal and the output circuit. SOLUTION: This pulse modulation type light detection device 1 is equipped with a power source terminal 3 and a GND terminal 4 between which a load and a power source are connected in series; a light-emitting element 8 for floodlighting pulsed light, in synchronism with a pulse signal; a light-receiving element 9 for receiving reflected light by an object to be detected or transmitted light therefrom, based on the pulsed light; and a signal processing circuit 11 for outputting a signal with a light-receiving signal input from the light-receiving element 9. The pulse modulation type light detection device 1 detects the existence of an object, based on a signal output from the signal processing circuit 11; and when there is an object, a pulse period or a pulse width of each signal output from the power source terminal 3 and the GND terminal 4 is changed.
