PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the productivity and the life cycle of consumables while reducing the running cost, the work load of an operator and the equipment investment expense. SOLUTION: A carrier for sheetlike articles is provided with: a folding drum 11 for carrying sheetlike articles sheet by sheet or by stacking a plurality of sheets of articles; a biting drum 12 or a deceleration drum 13 having holding means disposed at a plurality of portions to hold the sheetlike articles, and carrying the sheetlike articles by holding them by every other holding means in the case of carrying a plurality of sheetlike articles by stacking them; an upper transient drum 14 facing the biting drum or the deceleration drum, and having holding means disposed at a plurality of portions to hold the sheetlike articles; a lower transient drum 15 facing the biting drum or the deceleration drum, and having holding means disposed at a plurality of portions to hold the sheetlike articles; and a switching means for switching carrying paths to carry the sheetlike articles by separating the sheetlike articles from the biting drum or the deceleration drum to the upper transient drum and the lower transient drum in the case of carrying a plurality of sheetlike articles by stacking them.
