A testing process for picking up coating faults in coated components, comprises heating the coated component (3) to a high starting temperature and then allowing it to cool to a lower final temperature. During cooling, a thermal image camera is used to record the thermal image of the component. This is then compared with the thermal image of a fault free component that is used as a reference. Differences between the two images are detected, and if they are greater than a maximum allowed deviation, the component is marked as having unacceptable coating defects. The heating is carried out by the coating process, and cooling is determined by the surrounding temperature or by a cooling unit. The process uses a metal carrier, and the coating consists of an elastomer. |
