<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device that reduces deterioration in fine gray scale expression, while improving sensible contrast, when the quantity of light from a light source changes, based on a video signal. <P>SOLUTION: Light quantity adjustment is performed by a variable diaphragm 16 so that the quantity of light from the light source 11 is decreased, based on the luminance information in an input video signal Din. Image correction is made by a video signal processing part 23 so that the luminance level of the input video signal Din becomes higher, corresponding to the light quantity adjustment amount. At least one of a light quantity control signal S2 and a video control signal S1 is set in the preset adjustment direction or in a direction reverse to the correction direction by a characteristic information processing part 22, when the final display luminance state, corresponding to the luminance state of light modulated by liquid crystal elements 14R, 14G, 14B, is brighter than a predetermined luminance state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
