PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert capable of improving surface finish of a groove formed in a machining member. SOLUTION: A cutting insert for groove cutting includes cutting heads in a center shaft portion and at an end portion, and the shaft portion includes side faces (5, 6) adjacent to an upper face (1) and a bottom face (2), and a main cutting blade (8a) is formed at an intersection between the upper face and a front flank (3). The main cutting blade (8a) extends to a secondary cutting blade (8B) on both sides. A front end face of each cutting head has an upper flank (18), and the upper flank extends to a lower side face (20) through an inner dent face (19), and this lower side face moves toward an axially inside direction by a prescribed amount, and has a width equal to or narrower than a front width (d) of the cutting head.
