PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact rear view mirror for a vehicle enabling the user to clearly viewing an image other than the image reflected in the mirror. SOLUTION: In this rear view mirror for a vehicle (outer mirror 1) having the mirror 10 for viewing the rear of the vehicle, at least a part of the mirror 10 is formed of a mirror liquid crystal display 30 switchable between a permeable state and a mirror state. A display means (second mirror 40) for displaying the image other than the image reflected in the mirror 10 is installed on the rear surface side of the mirror liquid crystal display 30. The mirror liquid crystal display 30 is brought into the permeable state when an applied voltage is equal to or higher than a switching threshold voltage, and into the mirror state when the applied voltage is less than the switching threshold voltage or the voltage is not applied.
