<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation film, particularly the optical compensation film for liquid crystal display elements, excelling in optical characteristics such as great refractive index along the thickness of the film, great in-plane phase difference, and low wavelength dependence. <P>SOLUTION: The optical compensation film is a vinylene carbonate resin film whose 3-dimensional refractive indexes satisfy nz>ny≥nx wherein nx is the refractive index in the fast axis direction in the film plane, ny is the refractive index in the direction in the film plane perpendicular to the fast axis direction (or the refractive index of any two orthogonal axes when nx is equal to ny), and nz is the refractive index in the vertical direction outside the film surface, and the ratio (R450/R550) of the phase difference measured at a wavelength of 450 nm to the phase difference measured at a wavelength of 550 nm is 1.1 or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
