PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character recognition device for recognizing characters with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A control part generates vectorization data from the character data indicating input characters and extracts the outline of the input characters (Step S4), and the control part forms a plurality of approximately isosceles triangles which have an apex on the outline of the input characters indicated by optimized vector data obtained by optimizing the outline and share at least one side with others (Step S6). Then, the control part generates line segment data indicating a line segment containing at least one of the middle points of each side of the triangle in each of the plurality of triangles and generates core line data indicating the core of the input characters (Step S7), detects the core line data indicating a core line approximately matching the core line indicated by the core line data out f a knowledge DB (Step S8), and displays on a display part a registered character indicated by a character code corresponding to the core line data as the recognition result (Step S9).
