PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed change controller for continuously variable transmission for vehicle to conduct speed change control by changing the normal shifting mode to the accelerative shifting mode and vice versa in conformity to an acceleration request from a driver, capable of precluding the generation of the sense of incongruity originating from a steep rise of the input shaft rotating speed against the driver's intention when changing-over takes place from the accelerative shifting mode to the normal shifting mode. SOLUTION: The at-acceleration target rotating speed NINTL (broken line) is compared with the target rotating speed reference value, or the provisional speed change target value, NINTLB (dash-and-dot line) during execution of the accelerative shifting mode. In the case NINTL≥NINTLB speed change control to meet the acceleration request is conducted using the at-acceleration target rotating speed NINTL. In the case of NINTL<NINTLB, speed change control is conducted using NINTLB as the final target rotating speed (NINT), so that the target rotating speed (NINT) can be changed continuously when changing-over is made from the accelerative shifting mode to the normal shifting mode (Time t<SB>3</SB>).
