PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly reliably specify defect management information to be used in a short period of time, and to keep the reliability of defect management information high, in an information recording medium having a defect management region in which a plurality of pieces of defect management information can be recorded and a selection information region in which a plurality of pieces of selection information indicating the defect management information used at present can be recorded. SOLUTION: A processing procedure for extracting the newest selection information is established, and the newest defect management information is searched on the basis of the obtained selection information.
