PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a blast furnace, with which wear of a furnace bottom brick can surely be prevented in comparison with the related art at low cost without damaging the quality of molten iron. SOLUTION: In the blast furnace operation performed by charging raw materials from the furnace top part, when the brick temperature at the furnace bottom part is raised from a prescribed temperature, CaO/SiO<SB>2</SB>being the mass ratio of the CaO component and SiO<SB>2</SB>component in the raw materials, is charged while the ratio is controlled to be >1.3, and the wear of the furnace bottom brick 5 is prevented by controlling the brick temperature to a prescribed temperature or lower. Further, the raw materials in which the CaO/SiO<SB>2</SB>mass ratio of the CaO component and the SiO<SB>2</SB>component, is controlled to be >1.3, are charged in an area of within 10% throat diameter ratio including the furnace axial center, and the wear of the furnace bottom brick is prevented by controlling the brick temperature to a prescribed temperature or lower.
