PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a recording media state without increasing cost and largely changing a structure of a hardware in a recording device which detects the recording media on a carriage passage by using an optical sensor. SOLUTION: During operation for discharging a cut sheet after an image is recorded by a printer 10 which includes a recording head 20 for recording an image on a cut sheet as recording media, a PF motor 56 which carries the cut sheet by driving a carriage roller, and a sheet width sensor 43 for detecting existence of the cut sheet, a controller 60 determines whether or not discharge of cut sheet is completed based on the state detected by the sheet width sensor 43, the number of operation steps of the PF motor 56 during the previous feed operation, and the number of operation steps of the PF motor 56 since discharge starts.
