It is an object to provide a deflection device, in which a movable mirror reciprocally driven for rotation deflects a light beam projected from a light source, can operate at double the scan speed without increasing a driving frequency or a driving voltage of a mirror unit and making a magnet or a yoke large in size. A movable mirror (42) in a deflection device has a V-shaped structure mirror comprised of a first mirror surface (42a) and a second mirror surface (42b), the reflection direction of which is different from that of the first mirror surface (42a), wherein the movable mirror (42) is set to be bilaterally symmetric at a surface defined by the ridge line, where the first mirror surface and the second mirror surface intersect, and a surface including a rotation axis (Ax2) of a movable unit (41) as the boundary with respect to the movable unit (41). With this structure, the first mirror surface (42a) carries out a scan of two lines during a first half period of a reciprocal rotation movement of the V-shaped structure mirror and the second mirror surface (42b) carries out another scan of two lines during the latter half period of the reciprocal rotation movement of the V-shaped structure mirror, so that the deflection device can carry out a scan of four lines during one period of the reciprocal rotation movement of the movable unit (41). |
