Disclosed are: a monoclonal antibody which is useful as a therapeutic agent or a diagnostic agent for a disease associated with a polypeptide encoded by a Claudin-3 (hereinafter, referred to as "CLDN3") gene; and use of the monoclonal antibody. Specifically disclosed are: a monoclonal antibody capable of specifically recognizing the configuration of an extracellular domain of CLDN3 and binding to the extracellular domain, or a fragment of the antibody; a hybridoma capable of producing the antibody; DNA encoding the antibody; a vector carrying the DNA; a transformant produced by the transformation with the vector; a method for producing an antibody or a fragment thereof by using the hybridoma or the transformant; and a diagnostic agent or a therapeutic agent for a disease associated with a polypeptide encoded by a CLDN4 or CLDN3 gene, which utilizes the antibody or the fragment thereof.
