<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform light control of an LED unit by matching a light control level range for each LED unit and an applied voltage range to the LED unit under the condition where an applied voltage exceeding a rated voltage of the connected LED unit is not applied to the LED unit. <P>SOLUTION: After the LED unit C is connected, an LED lighting device 1 is so set that a set voltage V8 becomes (the rated voltage of the LED unit C)/(gain of a power supply portion 20) by an applied voltage limiting volume 231 of an applied voltage limiting portion 23. Then a reference signal V5 is maximized by a dimmer, and an amplification degree to a voltage across V3' from a current detecting portion 21 is so regulated that a constant current mode lamp 252 of a notifying portion 25 switches between ON and OFF at the maximum of the reference signal V5 by a volume 241 of a matching portion 24.
