PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measurement probe, such as a touch trigger probe, is which includes a stylus module (22, 122) attachable to a base module (20, 120). SOLUTION: The stylus module (22, 122) includes a housing and a stylus holder (24, 132) movably attached to the housing. The base module (20, 120) includes a measurement portion (36, 124) for generating measurement data indicative of movement of the stylus holder (24, 132) relative to the housing. The stylus module (22, 122) has an built-in failure mode and thereby a substantially predetermined operational lifetime. In one embodiment, the built-in failure mode is provided by integrating a battery (34) into the stylus module (22).
