PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To capture a sharp observation image with less blur, without excessively restraining vibration of a specimen. SOLUTION: The living body observation device 1 includes: an objective lens 6 which condenses light from the observation range of a specimen A; a contact section 4a which is brought into contact with the specimen A in the observation range of the objective lens 6 or near to it; and an elastic plate member 9 which is connected to the contact section 4a and keeps the contact section 4a in contact with the specimen A; a deformation detecting means 15 for detecting an elastic deformation arising in the elastic plate member 9; and a driving mechanism 7 which drives the objective lens 6 on the basis of the elastic deformation detected by the deformation detecting means 15.
