PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separation apparatus for recorded material, capable of minimizing changes of an inrush angle to an abutting separation surface caused by a change in the amount of the recorded material stuck in a tray for feed, and stabilizing separation performance of the recorded material in the abutting separation type separation apparatus for the recorded material. SOLUTION: This separation apparatus 1 for the recorded material, which separates the recorded material P1 on the top from the recorded material P2 on the second stage or later when the recorded material P stacked on the tray 5 for feed is fed by a roller 14 for feed and a hopper 16, is provided with a movable abutting separation section 32 having the abutting separation surface 31 which abuts a front edge 30 of the recorded material. The movable abutting separation section 32 is constituted in such a manner that the abutting separation surface 31 moves to reach a separation enable position inside a carriage passage 19 for the recorded material when the amount of the recorded material stuck on the tray 5 for feed reduces to the predetermined amount or less.
