PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for controlling current-carrying of a glow plug of an internal combustion engine capable of extending the life of the glow plug. SOLUTION: This device for controlling the current-carrying of the glow plug is provided with the glow plug, a power supply means supplying power to the glow plug, a glow plug current-carrying amount control means controlling the temperature of the glow plug by controlling the current-carrying amount to the glow plug, a storage means storing a historical pattern of the current-carrying of the glow plug, and a glow plug remaining life calculating means calculating the remaining life of the glow plug based on the current-carrying historical pattern upon a request of passing a current through the glow plug. The glow plug current-carrying amount control means adjusts the current-carrying amount to the glow plug from the power supply means so that the temperature of the glow plug is set to be lower than a requested temperature in compliance with the request of passing the current through the glow plug when the remaining life of the plug is at or below a stipulated value. This constitution can extend the life of the glow plug more when a combustion condition is deteriorated in a combustion chamber in a highland travel. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
