PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a paper feeding method, stably stopping a return lever at a third position. SOLUTION: The printer comprises: a hopper 31 oscillating while a printing paper sheet P is placed thereon; a feed roller 32 carrying the printing paper sheet P to the downstream; the return lever 34 oscillating and rotatable to a return position to return the next printing paper sheet P fed to the feed roller 32; a motor 311 driving the hopper 31 and the return lever 34; detection means 71, 72 detecting a stand-by positions of the hopper 31 and the return lever 34; and a control means 100 controlling the motor 311. Before detecting the entering of the return lever 34 to the return position, the detection means 72 can detect notice information.
