PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a forward discharge rate of generated mist A. SOLUTION: This electrostatic atomizer is provided with a discharge electrode 2 where a high pressure is applied, a counter electrode 3 grounded via a ground line 4, positioned in front of the discharge electrode 2 and opposed to the discharge electrode 2, and a water supply means 6 for supplying water onto the discharge electrode 2; and atomizes the water on the discharge electrode by discharge; wherein a cylindrical shield member 11 consisting of a material having conductivity lower than that of the discharge electrode 2 is disposed in the front side of the root side of the discharge electrode 2.
