A scroll compressor has a back pressure chamber 56 defined by two seals 58, 64 on different planes. Locating the seals on two distinct planes allows a more direct connection for a tap 66 from a compression chamber to the back pressure chamber and the volume of the back pressure chamber can be made significantly larger, reducing resistance at startup of the scroll compressor. The radially inner seal 58 may be formed between a radially extending flange 54 on the foot of an orbiting scroll drive boss 52 and a crank case lower surface 60. The radially outer seal 64 may be at a portion of the crank case adjacent the orbiting scroll base 51. The seals may be held in either or both of the orbiting scroll components or the crank case. |
