A backlight unit for a liquid crystal display device is provided to reduce or remove a side lobe of the backlight unit, thereby improving light efficiency and a viewing angle. A plurality of fluorescent lamps(122) is arranged in an upper surface of a reflective sheet(140). A diffusing plate(130) for uniformity of luminance is installed on an upper part of the fluorescent lamp. A plurality of optical sheets(120) comprises a light collecting sheet(124) and a reflective polarization sheet(126). A plurality of optical sheets is installed on the top of the diffusing plate. A plurality of fluorescent lamps is fixed with a pair of side supports(129) as long as the fluorescent lamps are connected to a cover bottom(180).
