This engagement process of a new speed ratio includes: a) an action step (127) of a rotary electric machine to convey the angular speed ?₁ of a transmission speed input shaft to an angular speed ?₂ of a secondary shaft of this transmission multiplied by the stepping-down of the gearbox dn_f of the new ratio n_f of speeds to be engaged, and b) an action step (138) of a mechanical synchroniser designed to converge the angular speed ?₁ to angular speed ?₂ multiplied by the stepping-down of the gearbox dn_f of the new ratio n_f. Steps a) and b) are at least partially simultaneously executed.
