A plugboard body for underwater use comprises an array of resilient insulating inserts 12-17 embedded in a plastics moulding 10, the inserts having bores, e.g. 25, 26, Fig. 2, each with axially-spaced split socket contacts, e.g. 27, 28 resiliently engaging their walls. An input cable 11 and lead wires are also embedded in the moulding 10 with intermediate parts of the wires bared to ensure waterproof connections to the sockets. Some of the inserts, e.g. 12, receive plugs with various numbers of contact pins and, if desired, a polarizing pin 37, while other inserts, e.g. 14, each receive several single pin plugs 20. The contact pins e.g. 31, 32, Fig. 2, of the plugs are of insulating material with spaced conducting bands 33 and 34, 35 and 36. They are a tight fit in the bores so that their insertion forces out any moisture in the bores through their open lower ends. Dummy plugs 21 are provided for protecting unused socket contacts from moisture. |
