APPARATUS FOR DISCRIMINATING FORWARD OBJECTS OF VEHICLE BY USING CAMERA AND LASER SCANNER

An apparatus for discriminating forward objects of a vehicle by using a camera and a laser scanner is provided to reduce calculation amount and manufacturing costs by employing an identical algorithm in order to determine a vehicle and a pedestrian. An apparatus for discriminating an object ahead of a vehicle by using a camera and a laser scanner comprises an object recognizing unit(110) recognizing an object using range data and determining a position coordinate of an object; a succeeding image generating unit(120) extracting a vehicle succeeding image and a pedestrian succeeding image from an object area; a first sorter(130) determining whether an object is a vehicle or not by sorting characteristic data of the succeeding vehicle image; a second sorter(140) determining whether an object is a pedestrian or not by sorting characteristic data of the succeeding pedestrian image; and an object discrimination unit(150) discriminating an object using the determination result of the first sorter and the second sorter.
