An image display apparatus is provided to display a horizontal image and a vertical image efficiently by changing the arrangement direction of a display unit based on the size information and the rotation information of an image file. An interface unit(50) inputs an image file including the first size information of an image, and a display unit(60) displays the image. A comparison decider(94) judges whether or not the arrangement direction of the image is identical to the arrangement of the display unit according to the size information. If not, a driving unit(70) changes the arrangement direction of the display unit.
