Electromagnetic jack selection device for lifting needles in a single feed or multifeed circular knitting machine is so designed that only one jack can be selected at any time, so constructed that the jack is moved into contact with the lifting surface. Stationary electromagnetic device affect the jacks radially or axially in relation to the needle cylinder causing the jack to move into the recess and in the position for actuation by the lifting surface of the cam means.
