A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device having the same are provided to remove a plurality of optical sheets, thereby improving assembling properties. A backlight unit(130) comprises the following units. A bottom cover(180) has a square box shape. An upper surface of the bottom cover is opened. One or more lamps(160) are equipped in an inside wall of the bottom cover. A light guide plate(150) is arranged along with the lamp. A reflective sheet(170) is arranged in a rear surface of the light guide plate. The reflective sheet reflects light irradiated to the rear side of the light guide plate in a direction of an LCD panel(100). A support main(140) of a square rim shape surrounds circumferences of the lamp, the light guide plate and the reflective sheet.
