<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display device enabling a user to grasp the travel direction of a vehicle as a real sense. <P>SOLUTION: The map display device has a current position detecting device for detecting the current position of a vehicle 33 and stores a map display direction determining area wherein the direction of the map displayed on a display monitor 16 is defined. When the vehicle 33 advances into a map display direction determining area 30, the direction of the map displayed on the display monitor 16 is changed into the direction as defined in the map display direction determining area 30.
