PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device suppressing the temperature rise of a roller or a belt facing a temperature control part, and also to provide an image forming apparatus using the fixing device. SOLUTION: An actuator 26 detecting a paper P is provided ahead of a fixing nip formed by a fixing roller 22 and a pressure roller 24, in the conveying direction of the paper P. A spring 28 is provided between the actuator 26 and a separation plate 27. The separation plate 27 can be rotated in such a manner that almost the central part of the separation plate 27 is pivotally supported. The paper P reaches the position of the actuator 26 and butts against the actuator 26, to rotate the actuator 26 around an axis against the energizing force of the spring 28. Then, the top end side of the separation plate 27 is rotated to a conveying path side through the spring 28 and the bottom end side of the separation plate 27 is rotated to the opposite direction, to come into contact with the end part of the fixing roller 22 and draw heat from the end part of the fixing roller 22, so that the temperature rise of the end part of the roller whose temperature easily rises because the paper P does not come into contact with the end part of the roller is suppressed.
