PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air intake device which can suck outer air into an engine even if the inside of an engine compartment is submerged, with a hood designed to have low air resistance. SOLUTION: The air intake device for the engine is equipped with an air cleaner 3 composed of an air cleaner case 32 for connecting an intake air duct 2 and an air cleaner cap 33 for connecting an air cleaner hose 4 connected to a throttle body, a sub intake air duct 5 communicating between paths of the air cleaner hose 4, a conducting sensor 7 which is installed in the air cleaner case 32 and detecting the water intruding from the intake air duct 2, and a flow passage selector valve 8 provided at the position where the air cleaner hose 4 and the sub intake air duct 5 are communicated, normally closes the sub intake air duct 5 to communicate a discharge port 33a of the air cleaner 3 with the throttle body, and when the conducting sensor 7 detects water, closes the discharge port side of the air cleaner 3 in the air cleaner hose 4 to communicate the sub intake air duct 5 with the throttle body.
