The invention relates to surface-modified pearlescent pigments whose surface is provided with at least one organic phosphoric compound of general formula (I) R<SUP>1</SUP>R<SUP>2</SUP>P(O)(OR<SUP>3</SUP>) and/or general formula (II) R<SUP>1</SUP>P(O)(OR<SUP>3</SUP>)(OR<SUP>4</SUP>), wherein R<SUP>1</SUP> and R<SUP>2</SUP> independently represent hydrogen or an organic radical comprising 1 to 30 C atoms, provided that R<SUP>1</SUP> and R<SUP>2</SUP> do not simultaneously represent hydrogen, R<SUP>3</SUP> and R<SUP>4</SUP> independently represent H or alkyl comprising 1 to 10 C atoms. The invention further relates to a method for producing said pearlescent pigments and the use thereof.
