The device (3) has a sensor unit receiving a permanent signal from a communication connector (1a) in an electronic device (1) and transmitting a trigger signal during absence of the permanent signal. A control unit receives the trigger signal from the sensor unit and outputs an alarm signal. The communication connector is a RJ45-network connector. A power supply connector integrated in the electronic device is connected to an alternating current source over an external cable. The sensor unit effects a request of alternating voltage to the power supply connector.
