PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing aβ-hydroxy-α-amino acid derivative in high syn selectivity and in high optical purity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the optically activeβ-hydroxy-α-amino acid derivative is characterized by reacting an aldehyde compound represented by formula (I) (R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrocarbon group which may have one or more substituents) with a silicon enolate represented by formula (II) (R<SP>2</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>are each a hydrocarbon group which may have one or more identical or different substituents) in the presence of a chiral zirconium salt to obtain aβ-hydroxy-α-amino acid derivative represented by formula (IIIa) or formula (IIIb).
