A contents relay device and a method thereof are provided to receive various formats of contents on the Internet as well as standardized contents of general IPTV services, and to offer services using media caches, thus a trick mode is available with existing contents. A search module(200) searches contents included in a predetermined search list, and updates a storage list of contents stored in a predetermined storage module. A format conversion module(220) converts contents of a format which is not reproducible in a predetermined display device into a format reproducible in the display device, among the searched contents. A communication module(210) transmits contents reproducible in the display device to the display device.
