PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excavator for use in a foundation pile burying method, capable of easily forming an enlarged diameter part used as a foot protection bulb part at a lower part of an excavated hole, as designed, high in construction reliability by easily confirming a formed situation from the ground, and surely improving the support strength of a foundation pile by the constructed foot protection bulb part. SOLUTION: Fixed excavating edges 4 and diameter-enlarging excavating edges 5 are mounted to an excavating head 3 at the lower end of an excavating rod 2 rotationally driven with its upper end connected to an auger driving device 1. Diameter enlarging cylinders 6 are mounted to the auger driving device 1, and lifting rods 7 put in lifting operation by the diameter enlarging cylinders 6 are disposed along the excavating rod 2. The lower end side of each lifting rod 7 is connected to a lower sliding frame 9. The lifting operation of the lifting rods 7 converts the diameter enlarging excavating edges 5 into a diameter enlarged attitude with a rotation diameter larger than the rotation diameter of the fixed excavating edges 4, and into a diameter reduced attitude with a rotation diameter not larger than the rotation diameter of the fixed excavating edges 4.
