A circuit-breaker 10, of the rotary handle type, generally similar to that of Specification 1,130,641, has a cam lock 59 operative to prevent accelerated movement of the cam 45 in the contact-closing direction by action of the cam follower 44 thereon immediately prior to and during the sudden release of the cam follower by the cam to permit contact closing. A handle 49 rotates the cam-shaft 46, and pawls 54 engage teeth 56 on shaft 46 such that cam 45 and plate 52 are rotated and cam 45 acts on a cam follower roller 44 to provide a step-type ratcheted operation of a reclosing lever 37 against springs 33 and then suddenly releases it to close contacts 27, 35 rapidly as roller 44 drops into notch 68 of cam 45. The cam lock 59 is pivotally supported on a pin 57 and is spring-biased clockwise such that a portion 62 engages a slot 63 in shaft 46 to prevent the relative rotation of cam 45 and shaft 46 in the "closing impending" position of roller 44 on cam 45. The cam lock portion 62 is released after roller 44 drops into notch 68, but a portion 69 enters slot 63 to lock the shaft 46 until the breaker has been tripped manually by a trip member (not shown) or by current-responsive means. When latch 21 is moved to released position, lever 37 moves such that the cam lock 59 allows rotation of the shaft 46 with respect to cam 45 to recommence ratchet operation. A pivoted indicator arm 71, visible through an opening 73, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), in the breaker housing, indicates the condition of the breaker contacts, and an indicator ring 65 indicates the rotated condition of cam 45, Figs. 2, 3B, 4B, 5B (not shown). |
