Copolymers are prepared by polymerising (a) 60-99.99 weight % of trioxane, (b) 0.01-20% of a comonomer (I) where R1 to R4 are hydrogen or 1-3C alkyl, and n is 0 to 4, and (c) 0-20% of a cyclic ether (II) in the presence of a cationic catalyst, at between -50 and +110 deg.C. The copolymers can be processed and shaped in the thermoplastic state; under certain conditions, cross-linked copolymers are obtained. The non-cross-linked copolymers containing free aldehyde groups can be post-reacted.
