An inkjet image forming apparatus and spitting method is provided to prevent other nozzles from being contaminated by waste ink removed from adjacent nozzle row by performing quickly spitting after wiping. An inkjet image forming apparatus comprises a print head having a number of nozzles arranged to the widthwise direction of a print media; a movable maintenance unit(15) having a spitting groove(60) housing ink droplet sprayed in the event of spitting of the print head; and a control part controlling the print head in order to spit ink with respect to nozzles facing the spitting groove.
