The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R is H or CH 3 and Y is -CH 2 -CH= CH- or -CH = CH-CH 2 - which are prepared by partial reduction of a diketone of formula and dehydrating the keto-alcohol obtained. In the example cyclopentadecan-1,5-dione is catalytically hydrogenated to cyclopentadecan-5-ol- 1-one, which is dehydrated with benzenesulphonic acid in toluene to give a mixture of cyclopentadec-4- and -5-en-1-ones, which is purified by forming the semicarbazone and decomposing this with phosphoric acid.
