摘要 A hybrid propulsion system for a passenger vehicle is provided having a control system 180 configured to control operation of first and second motor 140 and 120 to each provide vehicle braking torque, the transmission state being adjusted in response to an amount of braking torque provided by the first motor 140 and an amount of braking torque provided by the second motor 120. Two machines provide driveline braking torque, because one motor may be insufficient to provide sufficient braking torque. In an alternative mode, engine braking may be provided to augment braking by one of the motors. Electric motor control for braking is typically controlled in response to an operating condition and may be provided whilst adjusting a state of the transmission 130. The relative levels of electrical energy provided by the motors 120, 140 may also be varied. The system improves efficiency in the capture of kinetic energy.
