1,209,475. Securing reels on shafts. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 1 Nov., 1967 [1 Nov., 1966], No. 49651/67. Heading F2U. [Also in Division G2] A spindle 10 for rotatably supporting a film reel 28 on a fixed shaft 18 of a projector comprises a hollow cylindrical plastics body having an integral wall 15 dividing the bore therethrough into chambers 12, 14 each open at its end remote from the wall 15, the chamber 12 being adapted to receive the fixed shaft 18 and the chamber 14 housing a spring key 20 a limb 40 of which extends from the spindle surface to drivingly engage a slot 30 of the reel 28. A spring 22 lying in a plane at right angles to the key 20 is also housed in the chamber 14 with its two limbs (54), (Fig. 4, not shown), in axial slots (58) and end portions (56) of the limbs extending from the spindle surface to retain the reel on the spindle. An end cap 24 retains the key 20 and spring 22 in position and forms a bottom surface to parts of slot 48 (58). A spring clip 66 engages a groove 72 round the fixed shaft 18 to axially locate the spindle. A damping fluid is put into the chamber 12 before the spindle is pushed on to the shaft 18 to damp torsional oscillations of the spindle. A lug (36) (Fig. 1, not shown) is drivingly engageable by a lug 34 on a pulley 32 freely rotatable on the shaft 18. |
